Begin the Assignment due after Spring Break:

Pick one of these topics and write a one and a half (1 ½) page typed paper about the artist's work and what made it important. Use our volume on Italian Renaissance Art for your research. Also, we have a

Cite pictures from the book by page number or get some pictures off the web that you can add on at the end of your paper.
We'll share the books and do research during typing class and from 11:15-lunch today. Take notes on your computer.

Brunelleschi—Competed with Ghiberti on the Baptistry door project. Started ideas about perspective, introduced a new style in cathedrals, and built dome of the Florence cathedral (1377-1446).

Massacio (1401-1428) and Mantegna (1431-1506)—Important "realistic" painters. How did they make people feel that what they painted was "real?"

Botticelli and Ghirlandaio—Idealizing and beautiful paintings, some about classical mythology (1445-1510) (We have a DVD about one of B's paintings, on Spring, La Primavera.)

Donatello—Son of a butcher who became a great sculptor. (1386-1466) D. lived a long time and produced many famous works. (in the Power of the Past DVD)

TWO LATER FIGURES

Leonardo da Vinci—A genius who thought about everything. See material in Across too. (1452-1519) (I have a giant book on Leonardo's sketches, if you want to use it!) Chosen by Emi and Kaliana.

Michelangelo—Great painter and sculptor: the 14 foot David statue in Florence and the paintings in the Sistine Chapel. (1475-1564) (You can use my book on all his amazing work.)
